Garmin ECHOMAP Ultra 2 vs. Ultra
The Garmin ECHOMAP Ultra 2 builds on the original ECHOMAP Ultra series with newer connectivity and positioning features, while both generations offer large touchscreen displays and support for Garmin sonar. The right choice depends on which model you’re comparing, the transducer and maps included, and whether the newer features matter for your boat.
What both series offer
ECHOMAP Ultra and Ultra 2 models come in 10- and 12-inch display sizes. Both series support CHIRP traditional sonar, ClearVü and SideVü scanning sonar, and Garmin LiveScope. Transducer and mapping inclusions vary by SKU, so the model number matters: a chartplotter sold without a transducer is a different package from one bundled with a GT56 transducer.
What Ultra 2 adds
For the 10- and 12-inch Ultra 2 models, Garmin highlights wireless networking, multi-band GPS and an updated user interface. Wireless networking can share sonar, waypoints and routes between compatible chartplotters. Ultra 2 also supports Garmin Force trolling motor integration. Garmin has expanded the Ultra 2 family with 16-inch models, which adds a larger screen option not offered in the original Ultra lineup. (Garmin’s Ultra 2 announcement, 16-inch Ultra 2 announcement)
Which one should you choose?
Choose an original Ultra if its screen size, sonar support and included mapping or transducer match your existing setup. Consider Ultra 2 if you want its newer wireless networking, multi-band GPS, Force integration or the larger 16-inch display option. Check the exact SKU and package contents before comparing prices; similar-looking model names can have different mapping and transducer bundles.
